Packs of Promises
Packs of Promises is a faith-based community outreach initiative created through The Grace Collective, the young adult ministry of Greater Grace Church. The initiative was created with one simple goal: to support children in the community as they prepared to begin a new school year while showing them that their church and community believe in their future.
The idea began in March, when the young adult leaders recognized an opportunity to turn their ministry into something that could make a tangible difference. Rather than simply talking about serving the community, they wanted to create an initiative that allowed them to put their faith into action. The vision was to provide children with backpacks and essential school supplies so that they could enter the school year feeling prepared, encouraged, and supported.
Over the next four months, the project developed from an idea into a full fundraising and donation campaign. The Grace Collective worked to build awareness, encourage donations, organize supplies, and involve the church community. What made the initiative meaningful was that it became a collective effort rather than something accomplished by the young adult leaders alone.
The name “Packs of Promises” represents more than the physical backpacks being distributed. Each backpack represents a promise: a promise that children deserve access to the tools they need to learn, a promise that their community will continue to invest in them, and a promise that their dreams and futures matter.
The initiative ultimately received an incredible response from the church and community. Through generous donations, the campaign collected more than 50 backpacks and over 300 individual school supplies. These donations allowed The Grace Collective to prepare backpacks for children in Children's Church and provide them with practical resources for the upcoming school year.
At its heart, Packs of Promises is about faith in action. The initiative demonstrates that ministry can extend beyond Sunday worship and into everyday acts of service. A backpack may seem like a simple gift, but to a child, it can represent encouragement, preparation, opportunity, and someone believing in them.
The project also reflects the message of 1 Timothy 4:12, which encourages young people to lead by example through their words, conduct, love, faith, and character. The three members of The Grace Collective were able to take that message beyond scripture and demonstrate it through service.
Packs of Promises is ultimately a story about what happens when a small group of people chooses to believe in a bigger purpose. It began with three young adults, one idea, and a desire to serve. Four months later, it became a church-wide demonstration of generosity and love proving that when a community comes together, even a simple backpack can carry something much greater: a promise of hope for the future.
