Why I Travel.

Growing up my mom instilled in me to see the world first. Before you’re old, before you settle down, before you have kids. Travel as much as possible so you can look back and not have a single regret. 20 years later and I’m still living by those same rules. Travel. I want to see as much of the world as I can while I have the time and youth to do so.

Surfing in O’ahu

Washington, D.C.

In 2023, I had the opportunity to travel with the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) to Washington, D.C. for our annual media tour. This was my first time traveling without my mom and at first I was nervous but this was an amazing opportunity to branch out of my shell while networking.

While there I got to eat amazing food, go to different museums, and attend my very first concert. I will always hold this memory near and dear to my heart.

San Diego, California

The first time I went to the west coast was in 2022. We still had to wear masks on the plane and most flights weren’t full. It was my first spring break as a college student and I requested that we go to San Diego. My mom was ecstatic because it’s her favorite city in California. After a few days there it became one of my favorite cities anywhere.

Between the food, ocean views, and colorful culture I desired to come back and stay a little longer. While I haven’t been back since, Southern California holds a special place in my heart.

O’ahu, Hawai’i

I’ve been to O’ahu twice in my life and it’s the first time I felt like I had a second home. The air was fresh, the fruit was locally grown, and the culture was breathtaking. However, while there I couldn’t help but feel for the people of Hawai’i being taken by force to be apart of a country that had no respect for the people they were.

On both trips to O’ahu I was blessed to learn about each island and significance their culture has on today’s world. I hope people around the world continue to learn about Hawai’i and support them through all the hardships they have endured.
